Nick’s favorite thing…
I love how easy these are to whip up on a weeknight. They’re really quick to make too. I love how tasty they are and I really love how the garlic yogurt sauce intensifies the next day!
What do Greek Lamb burgers taste like?
Oh man, so yum! All the flavors you love about Greek food in each bite. Garlic yogurt, Greek spices in the burger patties. Oregano, pepper, cumin, salt, mint and a whole bunch of fresh and crispy veggies. I love great this burger looks great!
What are the ingredients I need for Greek Lamb burgers?
- Greek yogurt – I used the Farmers Union one here in Australia. Use a full fat or low fat one. Just keep in mind low fat will be a little runnier.
- Salt – I used fine salt.
- Parsley – I used continental parsley.
- Olive oil – make sure you use a really good quality extra virgin olive oil. It has the strongest flavour.
- Tomato – I used truss tomatoes.
- Red onion – white will work too, but red has a sweeter flavour.
- Cucumber – I used English or continental cucumber.
- Beef mince – I would advise using a regular non low fat beef mince.
- Lamb mince – same with the lamb mince.
- Pepper – I used freshly ground.
- Cumin – I used ground cumin powder.
- Oregano – I used dried oregano.
- Garlic – I would recommend using freshly minced garlic.
- Mint – fresh mint, finely chopped has the best flavor!
- Feta cheese – this adds loads of flavor!
- Egg – I used a large egg.
- Breadcrumbs – you can use regular breadcrumbs but I used Panko breadcrumbs.
- Burger buns – you could use brioche burger buns, but I would recommend using nice crispy burger buns.
- Dijon mayonnaise – adds so much flavour!
- Rocket – Also known as arugula, ads a peppery flavor.
Let’s go through each step.
Yogurt Sauce
- Add all the ingredients into a small mixing bowl and mix until well combined. Set aside.
Veggies
- I used a mandolin to slice the tomatoes and 1/2
- And onion but that’s optional. I just wanted nice uniform slices. Using a knife does the same thing.
- For the cucumber ribbons, I used a peeler which is the easiest way to get ribbons.
Burgers
- Grate 1/2 of the red onion into a large mixing bowl.
- Then add the lamb, beef, salt, pepper, cumin, oregano, minced garlic, parsley, mint, feta cheese, egg and breadcrumbs
- Mix until well combined.
- Split the mixture into 4 and shape each one into a round ball, then flatten to the size of your burger buns.
- Place on a hot fry pan and fry on each side for 4-5 minutes. Cover with a lid for the final 4-5 minutes once flipped over.
- To assemble, brush your bread buns with olive oil and grill until golden.
- Add some Dijon mustard on the bottom of each burger bun. Spread around.
- Then add some rocket, the burger patty, garlic yogurt sauce, tomato, onion and finish with the cucumber ribbons.
My Top Tips!
- Garlic yogurt sauce – You can make this a day ahead of time! In fact, if you make it a day ahead of time, the flavour intensifies and it’s even yummier!
- Hamburger Patties Temperature – When cooking the hamburger patties, make sure they reach at least 70C / 160F.
