Making a really good 1-minute chocolate cake in the microwave is not only possible, but I have the recipe, and Iโ€™m willing to give it away for free. Am I incredibly generous? I donโ€™t knowโ€ฆ But, yes. I am.

What makes this 1 minute Chocolate Cake so good?

Itโ€™s really good guys. And thereโ€™s really no catch. Itโ€™s a nice, warm, super quick way to satisfy those chocolate cravings. The only thing is you canโ€™t cook this and then save it for later. It dries out. But you can certainly make the batter ahead of time and then cook up to 24 hours later!

Can I bake this 1 minute chocolate cake recipe in the oven?

Yes! You can bake this cake by simply preheating a fan forced oven to 180C. Make sure whatever you bake it in is oven safe and bake for 4-5 minutes.

Can I make this in advance?

Yes! Make the batter up to a day in advance and then store it in the fridge. Cook when youโ€™re ready!

My cake is still jiggly in the centre!

Thatโ€™s ok. Every microwave has a different cooking strength. If your cake is still a little jiggly in the centre you can microwave for an extra 20-30 seconds.

Flour – I used all-purpose flour, also known as plain flour. You could use cake flour as well.

Caster sugar โ€“ also known as caster sugar. You can use granulated sugar or even

Cocoa powder โ€“ I used unsweetened cocoa powder.

Baking powder โ€“ I used

Salt โ€“ I used fine salt

Milk โ€“ you can use cowโ€™s milk or any plant based milk.

Butter โ€“ I used unsalted butter. You can use vegetable oil in its place.

Chocolate โ€“ I used bittersweet (dark) cooking chocolate. Using cooking chocolate is best as it melts nicer.

  1. Making this 1-minute chocolate cake is so easy. Make sure the mug on the bottom is heatproof. It will say on the bottom if itโ€™s microwave or oven safe.
  2. Add all the dry ingredients into the mug and use a fork or whisk to mix it together until well combined.

  1. Next, add all the wet ingredients. The milk and butter, and mix until well combined.
  2. Then add the chopped chocolate and fold through.

  1. Microwave for 60 seconds. If your cake is still jiggly in the centre, microwave for an extra 20-30 seconds.
  2. To garnish, add whipped cream or ice cream on top.

Ingredients

1 minute chocolate cake

  • 1/4 cup / 40 g all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup / 50 g caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/8 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup / 60 ml milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp bittersweet chocolate, chopped


Instructions

1 minute chocolate cake

  • Get ready for delicious cake in 60 seconds! Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt to a regular sized mug that is microwave safe. Use a whisk or fork to mix until well combined.
  • Add the milk and melted butter and mix into the cake. Mix until a batter forms. Then add the chopped chocolate on top and fold in. Microwave for 1 minute. If the centre is still jiggly, microwave for another 20-30 seconds. Every microwave is different in strength.
  • Optional: Garnish with whipped cream and sprinkles on top.
